Pterocarpus Marsupium: An effective herb in the treatment of Diabetes. It helps to reduce glucose absorption from the GIT and improve the insulin and pro-insulin levels. It promotes regeneration of Beta cells of Islets if Langerhans significantly by stimulating the Beta cells of Islets of Langerhans to create more insulin thus enabling the pancreas to function at its normal and optimal capacity.
Agele Marmelos:It stimulates the insulin secreting cells of the pancreas. It decreases the glucose level and glycosylated haemoglobin. It also promotes the uptake of glucose by the cells.
Gymnema sylvestre: It supports healthy glucose metabolism by mediation of insulin release and enhances health pancreas function. Gymnema increases the enzymes responsible for glucose uptake and utilization and inhibits peripheral utilization of glucose. Gymnema sylvestre can be simply calledas a destroyer of sugar. It acts mainly on the two sites- the taste buds in the oral cavity and on the absorptive surface of the intestines.
It increases the peripheral utilization of blood glucose. Gymnema contains Gymnemic acids which are the molecules similar to Glucose in shape and thus they are able to fill cell receptors on the taste buds and in the lining of the intestines, preventing the uptake of sugar molecules and resulting in lower blood sugar levels.
Momardica Charantia: It increases insulin sensitivity. It contains a lectin which has insulin like activity due to its non-protein specific linking together to insulin receptors. This lectin lowers blood glucose concentrations by acting on peripheral tissues and, similar to insulin's effects in the brain, suppressing appetite. Several compounds of Momardica charantia are found to lower the blood glucose. These include charantin and an insulin like protein called polypeptide-P, or plant insulin.
Syzium Cumini: It reduces blood sugar by sensitizing the pancreas to produce more insulin along with reducing the cell resistance to insulin which helps to increase glucose uptake by the cells. It also shows marked antihyperlipidemic activity.
Tinospora cordifolia: It reduces the blood sugar level and also promotes speedy healing in diabetic foot ulcers. It contains a variety of chemicals of which some have pronounced antioxidant activity and others might increase the activity of the body’s immune system and thus acts a good vitalizer.
Cinnamomum Tamala: Its carminative activity promotes digestion of foods by promoting pancreatic activity. It produces hypoglycaemic effect along with insulin release from pancreatic Beta cells.
Ficus racemosa: It is rich in dietary fibres and has marked hypolipidemic activity. It significantly increases the rate of glucose transport across the cell membrane and thus found to produce strong hypoglycaemic effect. Hence it is used as an adjunct in the management of Diabetes. Trigonella foenum graecum (Fenugreek): Its fibre-rich fraction of lowers blood sugar level in Diabetics. It reduces the rate of glucose absorption by the intestines thereby reducing the after meals glucose peak levelsg .
Azadirachtha Indica: It exhibits significant antidiabetic and hypolipidemic effects. It controls the blood sugar level and also helps to prevent or delay the onset of the disease. Azadirachtha indica prevents Adrenaline induced hyperglycaemia. |
